I Win is a pallet for so much of the music that would come in 9 years since its quiet little birth. At the time, so much of my music was being composed in bedrooms and on various modes of transportation while traveling around Asia. Although 9 years have passed, the work represents a lot of techniques I still use today in terms of sampling and song arrangement. This self-released EP contains two tracks; I Win and Do It Again.
The first of which was inspired while spending a lazy autumn afternoon in Jeju, South Korea. I was on a tatami mat floor playing around with some samples I cut up that day. A friend of mine was on the other side of the room deeply immersed in a mobile game. After spending around half an hour between my headphones and software, the track was pretty much ready but just needed a title. I slipped off my headphones as another friend handed me an ice-cold bottle of Korean beer. Simultaneously, my other friend just finished a level in the game and softly, but confidently said, "I Win." It had a nice ring to it and therefore became the title.

The second track on the EP, Do It Again, was written halfway between Jeju and Beijing. In 2012 I was listening to a lot of post-dubstep, 2000's emo, and psychedelic cumbia from the late 1970s. I was going through some old field recordings from when I lived in Ningbo, China. I found a clip I recorded of some nice skateboarders and me jumping a set of stairs downtown. They could not speak much English, but each time I would go to jump the set they would yell out "Do Your Best!" I felt like at the time of writing the track I was wanting to combine a lot of parts of genres to get the sound I wanted. I did not want to do a poor job of it, and this phrase stuck out. The whole process gave me a huge amount of nostalgia for these hangouts and I just wanted to return to that time. Therefore the title reflects that feeling of longing.

The album art was taken on a vintage Chinese camera with a light leak in Jeju, South Korea.

Looking back on this EP, I'm reminded of the naive beauty of just making beats for fun in my free time without the constraints of label pressure, deadlines, or budget. It is an ultimately pure way to create and a strong reminder to not forget where I came from. I hope you enjoy the EP as much as I enjoyed making it.

《I Win》这张EP帮我创作好多我现在还在用的作曲的技术和想法。9年前好多我的音乐是在家里的录音棚或者上飞机火车等等写的。这张EP里面有两首歌 《I Win》还有 《Do It Again》。大部风的音乐在韩国济州岛和中国北京创作的。

第一首歌《I Win》的故事是有一个秋天的下午，我在济州岛的朋友们家。在屋子的榻榻米上带耳机写beats, 我对面有一个朋友玩手游。我拿下来耳机然后另外一个朋友给我一个巨凉的韩国啤酒，同时间第一个朋友把游戏玩完了，她很得意的说；“我赢了！”。那个时候觉得情况好玩所以我给曲子的名字来英文的I Win。

这张专辑的第二首歌叫《Do It Again》，就是英文再一次在做的英文。那个时候我听的音乐风对一些post-dubstep, 00年代的emo, 和70年到后期的迷幻cumbia。 我在济州岛掀开这首歌的采样，等回北京的时候开始安排完循序。我在找田野录音的采样的时候我发现一件视频。我住在宁波的时候我会跟滑滑板的朋友在城市中心一起跳楼梯。那个时候有一个朋友一直会用英文告诉朋友们“做你最好的自己！” 我觉得这句话特别的有道理，所以我开始把这所有的风格放在一起我觉必须做的好。做任何的事情的时候不能做的一半，必须做你最好。我想到这些与朋友在一起玩的回忆，就像回到那个时间，专辑里我给这首歌的名字叫《Do It Again》。

专辑的封面照片在济州岛拍的。用的是一个老式中国胶卷相机。

回头看这张EP我自己就记得不再专门的工作室写作品真是个特色的情况。如果一个人没有任何的唱片公司压力，预算的问题，或者截止日期, 他们可以有一个做音乐的天真美境。我自己不能忘记我是从哪里来的。我喜欢你喜欢这个音乐跟做愉快的在写它一样喜欢的。
