About The Sound of Walking:

The Sound of Walking is an innovative music project formed by Namu
Label in 2015. The project centers around the collection of folk recordings and exists to help recognize different regional cultures through sound. The project utilizes music to interpret ancient Chinese traditional culture and art. The Sound of Walking incorporates various musicians who perform in different areas each year. The initial material for the pieces was made by the use of professional recording equipment in the field to preserve the sounds of rural areas before they disappear entirely. The team collected audio from interactions with locals, natural sounds, and other encounters throughout their journey. After the recordings where compiled, musicians from within China and abroad were assembled to produced a series of “walking sound” music which was later made into an album. This documentation of regional sounds provides a panoramic, immersive experience where the listener is invited to share these interactions.

Album producer:
Wang Zibin (music producer & founder of Namu Label). Zibin, also known as Namu, has worked as an album producer and composer for many independent musicians in China. In 2013 he established Namu Label and in 2015 started planning the source material for The Sound of Walking. A large focus of his work is committed to protecting and innovating traditional Chinese source music and national culture & art.

Since the initial launch of The Sound of Walking project in 2015, he has led his team all over China. They have gathered musical collections and arrangements in Gansu, Tibet, and Qinghai. These include a large number of endangered folk music and never before heard original pieces. The recorded material is made up of ethnic minority folk songs, regional natural sounds, non-heritage folk music, local operas, and other audio related to local culture and arts.

《行走的声音·河西走廊》
专辑介绍：
河西走廊是古丝绸之路的中段，中国连接欧亚大陆的咽喉要道，古时中西文化交融碰撞的黄金通道。这张专辑收录了中国西北河西走廊上的8首传统民间音乐，涉及6位民间音乐类非物质文化遗产传承人，同时收录了沿途各地的环境声。
这些处在河西走廊不同地域、不同民族、不同文化背景下的的人们，他们独特的情感、思想意识、生活场景构成了这片土地独特的音乐形式。他们以歌声来表达情感、诉说神话、讴歌英雄、展现生活劳动场景等，一幅幅完整且充满多种风格的音乐画面，从不同视角呈现出一路径下孕育出这些民间音乐的人文、历史、文化背景，是河西走廊上的中国文化展现的一个集合载体。
素材采集结束后，集结了国内外17位优秀原创音乐人，重新制作采集到的本源音乐，打造了一张当代与传统、民族与世界相融合的全新音乐专辑。参与音乐人包括制作人王耔斌、美籍制作人thruoutin，“磊落”的贝斯手王磊、键盘王亦乐；维吾尔族艾捷克演奏家阿地力，蒙古族音乐人胡格吉乐图、吴兴华、鲁超，藏族音乐人贡布昂杰、德拉才让，电子音乐人Liiii，混音工作室Vintage Age Studio创始人张平,母带制作由获得格莱美最佳专辑的世界级母带大师Ted Jensen操刀。
在完整的保留民间音乐本身演唱的情绪和传递的情感的同时，我们的创作更多的是将音乐本身表述的场景化和情感化呈现出来。例如专辑中裕固族民歌《擀毡歌》，65岁的裕固族老人白金花所演唱的是多年以前她的父母在擀毡劳作时的场景，音乐的律动正好与擀毡时的动作频率一致。如今，擀毡的画面已渐渐消逝，我们通过音乐的全新创作来重新建构了这一场景。
